Order of Saint Agatha

The St. Agatha Medal was donated by the Grand Council of the Republic of San Marino on June 5, 1923. It is named after Saint Agatha, on whose feast day, February 5, Pope Clement XII. 1740 the sovereignty of the Republic established again.

The Order is reserved for foreigners and can be given to those who have rendered services to the Republic by initiative, work and charity towards the pious foundations of the country. The acting Council of Regency shall jointly participate in the Grand Magisterium of the Order. The Order is awarded to the proposal of a commission, composed of the two reigning monarchs and the President of the pious foundations, among others.

Order of classes

The order consists of five classes:

  • Grand Cross
  • Grand Officer
  • Commander
  • Officer
  • Knight

Order decoration

The religious character is a white enamelled Mantuakreuz in gold with an oak and laurel wreath between the arms of the cross. In the medallion it shows a portrait of Saint Agatha, with the inscription SANT AGATA PROTETTRICE (Saint Agatha Protector ) on a white background. At the back the coat of arms of the Republic with the inscription BENE MERENTI ( The Well-deserved ).

The Order star, which varies depending on the class size, is an eight-pointed star brillierter, alternating with gold and silver beams. The star bears in the middle of a religious character.

Carrying method

The Grand Cross is worn on a sash from the right shoulder to the left hip and chest with a eight-pointed star, on which rests the religious character. Grand Officer and Commander bear the distinction of being neck Orders, Grand Officers in addition to a somewhat reduced breast star. Officer and Knight decorate the Order of the band on the left chest.

The ribbon is red-brown with yellow-white curbs.
