Order of Saint George (Kingdom of Hungary)

The Saint George Order of Knights (Hungarian: Szent György Lovagrend ) was founded in Visegrád in 1326 by Charles Robert and George the dragon slayer chosen as the patron saint. The Order was created after the time of the Crusades and is courtly, not of ecclesiastical origin. He was the first royal order of knights of the world, even before the 1348 donated the English Order of the Garter. The Order was primarily the protection of the monarch, but also the defense of the Turkish threat.

After the death of the last Grand Master of the Equestrian Order of Saint George 1541 Ferdinand I sniffed the goods of the Order.
