Order of Saint Januarius

Called The Januariusorden, also Order of Saint Januarius or St. Januarius Medal, was a Sicilian Order, by King Charles IV of Naples and Sicily ( later King Charles III. Of Spain) on July 6, 1738 in honor of his marriage was donated to the Princess Maria Amalia of Saxony.

He could be awarded only to Catholics who could prove the nobility to four ancestors.

Since union with Sicily, Italy ( 1861), the Order is repealed.

Order of classes

The Order had only one class and was initially limited to 60 members. Later, he was given unlimited.

Order decoration

The order consists of an eight-pointed red and white enamel gold-rimmed Maltese Cross. On the tops of each small gold beads. In the cross angles in each case is a golden Bourbon lily. Centered on the front of the cross, the plastic figure of St. Januarius in episcopal attire. The half body visible only blessing holding the right hand in the air and in his left a book. Order clothing

For a celebration ceremony clothing was mandatory. A purple colored moire embroidered coat with lilies and pearl-gray taffeta and lined with ermine fur pretending was adorned with two golden cords. To this end, a black velvet hat was worn with red feather and a coat and waistcoat. White or red stockings and black shoes with gold rosettes were part of the clothing.
