Order of Suvorov

The Suworoworden (Russian Орден Суворова / Order Suworowa ) was the third highest military order of the USSR after the victory medal and the Red Banner. It was named after the Russian Generalissimo Suvorov.

The three-class medal was instituted on 29 July 1942 by the government under Joseph Stalin and only given to marshals, generals and officers. The award of the Order of Suvorov First Class remained commanders of armies and fronts, their deputies, chiefs of staff, chiefs of departments and heads of operational lines and reserved for the military branches. By Order of Suvorov Second Class corps, division and brigade commanders were excellent. The award of the Order of Suvorov third class was at regimental and battalion commanders and their deputies.

Design of the Order

Order star

The religious character was in all classes a vaulted star with multiple refracted rays. In the center of the medallion, which had a diameter of 26 mm in the first class a diameter of 27 and in the other two classes, was one to the left -turned, half-length portrait of Suvorov. In the upper part it had the inscription АЛЕКСАНДР СҮВОРОВ, German " Aleksandr Suvorov " on. Below the portraits was a tied together branch, consisting of laurel (left side) and oak leaves (right side). The edge in the Order star of the first class is red enamel, whereas the other two classes have a red enamel of the inscription. In addition, was on the order of first class mark at the tip of a red enameled star with a diameter of 7 mm.

The Order was the first class of platinum (star ) and gold ( medallion ), in the second grade of gold and silver and in the third grade only of silver.

Ordensspange

The basic colors of medal bar ( band buckle) were green with orange stripes. On the ribbon of the first class was a 5 mm wide central reservation. Had the Ordensspange the second class two 3 mm wide edge strip and the third class has a central and two marginal strips with a width of 2 mm.

Award

The Suworoworden was in first grade over 390 times, in the second class over 2800 times, and in the third grade awarded over 4,000 times. Among the winners of the Suworowordens first class includes the Frunze Academy and the Military Academy of the General Staff.

The Erstverleihung of the Order in the first class was held on 28 January 1943. On this day the order was awarded 23 officers. G.K. Zhukov was awarded the medal with number one.
