Order of the Phoenix (Greece)
The Order of the Phoenix (Greek Τάγμα του Φοίνικος, Tagma tou Finikos ) was founded on 13 May 1926 as the Order of Merit for foreigners by the Greek Government and after reintroduction of the monarchy civil and changed into a military order for all persons on 18 January 1936.
Order of classes
The Order is awarded today by the President in five classes:
- Grand Cross ( Μεγαλόσταυρος )
- Grand Commander ( Ανώτερος Ταξιάρχης )
- Commander ( Ταξιάρχης )
- Cross in Gold ( Χρυσός σταυρός )
- Silver Cross ( Αργυρός σταυρός )
Order decoration
The religious character is a white enamelled golden paws cross with a golden phoenix plastic in the middle.
For military merit medal with the crossed swords is given by the cross angle.
Carrying method
The Grand Cross is worn with a sash from the left shoulder to right hip as well as an eight-pointed silver breast star. Great Commanders wear the chest star and a neck order, commanders just the same. The cross in gold or silver is worn on the ribbon on the left chest.
The ribbon is yellow with black border stripe.
