Order of Vasa

The Royal Wasaorden (sv Vasaorden ) was a Swedish Order of Merit. It is also called the Green Belt.

History

The Wasaorden was founded by King Gustav III. of Sweden on 26 May 1772 his coronation, donated. Since 1975 he is no longer awarded. The Order should remember his name to the dynasty of Vasa and was in excellent merits in the field of agriculture, trade, mining, industry, commerce, the arts and education, but also in the dissemination of useful writings in these areas awarded. He could be awarded to nationals and foreigners. Head of the Order was the Swedish king.

Order of classes

The Order consisted of three stages:

  • Commanders with the Grand Cross
  • Commanders
  • Knight

King Gustav IV Adolph statuierte the Order on November 26, 1798 and informed the commanders in First and Second Class. A Statutes Supplement of 17 April 1890, told the knights into two classes. The division commanders in the Grand Cross, Commanders First and Second Class, and First and Second Class Knight was to the last.

Order decoration

The religious character consists of one for all classes equal and different only in size white enamel eight-pointed Maltese Cross. There is a golden crown, and in the middle of a blue oval medallion on the cross. It shows in a goldbordierten dark red tires the golden inscription THE GUSTAV III. INSTIKTARE MDCCLXXII ( Gustav III, Stifter, 1772) and the coat of arms of the house of Vasa, a bound and gehenkelte golden sheaf.

Until the mid- 19th century, the decoration consisted only of the medallion that was worn on the collar of the Order or on tape.

The knights of the order were entitled to the religious characters in their coat of arms.

Carrying method

The ribbon is dark green and was supported by large crosses from the right shoulder to the left hip of the commanders around the neck and of the knights on the chest. The Wasaorden also had a special habit. On ceremonial occasions, the commanders wore the Grand Cross and the commanders of a costume from grass green velvet.
