Ordubad is a town in Azerbaijan and the capital of the district Ordubad in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. The city lies on the River Ordubad, a tributary of the Aras, and 2008 had 10,400 inhabitants. The name has Ordubad Turkish and Persian roots and means army City.

History

The city was in the Middle Ages is of great importance for the region. At times the capital of a small sultanate she was most important administrative center in alternating rich.
