Ordulf, Duke of Saxony

Ordulf (also called Otto ) ( † March 28, 1072 ) from the family of Bill Unger was Duke of Saxony from 1059 to 1072.

He succeeded his father Bernhard II after his death in 1059 as the Duke. His reign was dominated by the struggle against the Wends, which was conducted together with the Christian Danes. The Marriage Ordulfs with the Norwegian Princess Wulfhild strengthened this alliance.

Ordulf was buried in the St. Michaelis Church in Lüneburg.

Progeny

Ordulf was married twice, with two women he had a son. His first wife was since November 1042 Wulfhild of Norway ( † May 24, 1071 ), a daughter of King Olav II Haraldsson. Both child was his successor, later Duke Magnus. He completed a second marriage to Gertrude of Haldensleben, a daughter of Count Konrad and widow of Friedrich ( probably from Formbach ) that was imprisoned in 1076 in Mainz, Germany and died on 21 February 1116. Their son was Bernard, who died in Lüneburg on 15 July an unknown year after a fall from a horse.
