Oregon (Band)

Oregon is a jazz quartet from the USA.

History

The origins of the group go back to Oregon in the second half of the 60s. Ralph Towner and Glen Moore were the founders of the group. End of the 60s - the (wrong ) According to legend, they first met at the legendary Woodstock Festival - Collin Walcott came to. 1972 later, Paul McCandless, with Walcott and Towner already played together in the Paul Winter Consort, to the group. Thus, the main cast of the quartet was found.

By 1980, the quartet toured a lot and also played in Europe. At the time, the game of the group did not develop uniformly, but served a whole range of jazz styles.

In 1980, the group is a creative break to stand just a year later with a new sound on the stage. With its electronic elements of this sound was contemporary in the 1980s. The modified group sound is mainly due to Ralph Towner back and his newfound passion for the keyboard, but partly also to the aesthetics of ECM producer Manfred Eicher.

Collin Walcott died in 1984 in a car accident. After the group had decided to go on, sat 1985 Trilok Gurtu for the next concerts on drums. The studio album Beyond Words in 1995 played the three musicians ( Towner, Moore and McCandless ) then one alone. A year later, as the fourth musician Mark Walker, initially only for a few pieces added.
