Orellana Province

Orellana is a province of the Republic of Ecuador. It lies in the east of the Ecuadorian portion of the Amazon basin and has an area of ​​21,700 km ² approximately 95,000 inhabitants. The capital is Puerto Francisco de Orellana, also known as El Coca, after the river Coca, in which it lies.

The Orellana province one of the newest provinces of Ecuador. It was established in 1998 and from the province of Napo, whose eastern part it was previously outsourced. The province's name comes from conquistador and explorer Francisco de Orellana, who sailed on the Gonzalo Pizarro Expedition ( 1540) in search of El Dorado was the first to Amazonas ( from Coca and Napo -wise) to the mouth.

The main natural resources of the province are petroleum and tropical woods.
