Oren S. Copeland

Oren Sturman Copeland (* March 16, 1887 in Huron, Beadle County, South Dakota, † April 10, 1958 in Lincoln, Nebraska ) was an American politician. Between 1941 and 1943 he represented the first electoral district of the state of Nebraska in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Oren Copeland was born on a farm in South Dakota. In 1891 he moved with his parents to Pender, Nebraska. There he attended the public schools. Between 1904 and 1907 he studied at the University of Nebraska. From 1910, Copeland worked in Lincoln in the newspaper business since 1913, he operated a gas station.

Copeland was a member of the Republican Party and a delegate to the Republican National Convention in 1912., He held his first political function 1935-1937 as an employee of the Office of Public Safety of the City of Lincoln. After that, he was 1937-1940 Mayor of this city. In the congressional elections of 1940 he was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, where he was not back candidates John Hyde Sweet replaced on January 3, 1941. Since Copeland was not nominated in 1942 by his party, he was able to complete only one term in Congress until January 3, 1943.

After the end of his time in Congress Copeland worked again in the service station business. Politically, he is no more have appeared. Oren Copeland died in April 1958, and was buried in Lincoln.
