Orewa

Orewa is a city on the North Island of New Zealand. It lies on the east coast of the North Auckland Peninsula, at a Hibiscus Coast mentioned coastline at the base of the Whangaparaoa Peninsula. The city is located 30 km north of Auckland, is administratively to the Rodney District. The bay on which the city is located, is called Whangaparaoa Bay.

The city had the Census 2006 7.326 inhabitants, a significant increase compared to 1996 (4.824) and 2001 (5.634), plus numerous vacationers. Orewa is regarded as one of the fastest growing places in New Zealand and is one of the regions with the highest real estate prices.

Orewa is located on the State Highways 1 and 17, the latter is referred to herein as the Hibiscus Coast Highway. The leading north Northern Highway 1a ends inland of Orewa. From here, the traffic of the highway 1a is now managed eastbound towards Orewa and follows from there back to the no longer developed as highway here Motorway 1 is a 7.5 km long extension of the Northern Highway under construction and scheduled to open in 2009. Thus, the leading north highway will direct traffic to near Puhoi to Orewa and so around.

The city made ​​on 27 January 2004 the political headlines, as the leader of the New Zealand National Party, Don Brash, then leader of the parliamentary opposition, called after the place " Orewa speech" speech was given in front of the local Rotary Club. This approach led to a controversy about race relations in New Zealand. Some consider this speech for a turning point in the New Zealand policy.

Orewa Beach is one of the longest and safest beaches in Auckland.

Pururi Park

In 2005 the well-known place in Pururi Park at the foot of the Eaves Bush was sold for NZ $ 2 million. This brought on some citizens, because they saw it as a sign of a more commercial development of Orewa and mourned the loss of recreational opportunities for the citizens.

Currently the area is being developed as the district Kensington Park to be space for the rapidly increasing demand for housing in Orewa and environment requirements.
