Organisation Scientifique et Technique du Vol à Voile

The OSTIV (Organisation Scientifique et Technique du Vol à Voile ) promotes the exchange of experience and cooperation in gliding between experts and pilots of all nations.

The OSTIV was created in 1948 in Samedan / Switzerland as a successor organization to the ISTUS ( International Study Commission for gliding ). Object and purpose is the advancement of gliding in technical and scientific terms, while purely sporting aspects of gliding by the FAI (Fédération Aéronautique Internationale) or this sub- IGC (International Gliding Commission ) are perceived.

The OSTIV is divided into a technical and a scientific section. The scientific section contains the " Meteorological Panel", the technical section consists of the " Sailplane Development Panel" and from the "Training & Safety Panel".

The OSTIV is the editor of the scientific journal " Technical Soaring ". Every two years, the OSTIV Congress held during and at the site of the World Gliding Championships. The XXX. OSTIV Congress was held from 21 to July 28, 2010 parallel to the World Gliding Championships 31 of the 15m class, the 18m class and the open class in Szeged in Hungary.
