Organising Bureau of European School Student Unions

The Organizing Bureau of European School Student Unions ( OBESSU ) is the European umbrella organization for national students and student representative organizations based in Brussels. Currently Viviana Galli holds held the position of General Secretary.

The OBESSU is a member of the European Youth Forum.

Objectives

The OBESSU the following objectives:

  • To create greater solidarity, cooperation and understanding between young people in Europe and in particular between students and their national organization
  • To eliminate all discrimination and injustices in the European education system
  • Work with all students organizational structures in Europe in order to create a true European cooperation
  • To represent the interests and views of European students to European educational institutions
  • To create greater understanding between peoples, to allow the development of a peaceful and secure environment, thereby facilitating the development of each individual
  • To support the quality and availability of democracy in education in Europe and to improve

Organization

The supreme body of the organization is the General Assembly, which is held annually and the five -to seven- member board of directors chooses to two years.

The OBESSU annually organized around five European-wide conferences and seminars for students.

Projects and campaigns

Currently, the OBESSU works for a recognition of the Declaration of pupils' rights, which was developed and adopted in 2006 by the member organizations. Starts to the " Light on the Rights " In the fall of 2008 - the campaign that will lead to greater recognition of the declaration Europe.

History

The OBESSU was founded in April 1975 in Dublin and since September 2008 has over 20 member organizations, three observation ( Observer ) and more contact organizations ( including the German Federal student conference). From the German-speaking world is the Austrian Action Critical pupils and the Swiss Union of Student Organizations CH / FL Member.
