Orgeans -Blanche Fontaine is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Orgeans -Blanche Fontaine is situated at 470 m, 5 km west-northwest of Maîche and about 28 km south of the town of Montbéliard (air line). The village is located in the Jura, on a terrace on the southern flank of the Dessoubre, at the northern foot of the heights of Maîche.

The area of ​​4.83 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The northern boundary runs along the Dessoubre, the deeply cut in spiral running in the surrounding Jura plateau of south-west flows to the northeast. The steep valley slopes are traversed by Kalkfelsbändern. From the river, the municipality's area extends southward to the terrace of Orgeans -Blanche Fontaine, which is divided by the valley section of the Waroly. This site terrace is dominated by a steep, mostly forested and an average of 200 m high slope, which leads on to the high plateau of Maîche. The southeastern boundary of the municipality usually case runs above the escarpment, which is crowned at different places of the rocks of a rugged limestone layer. With 713 m of altitude, Le Friolais is achieved the highest elevation of Orgeans -Blanche Fontaine at the edge.

The municipality consists of the two districts Orgeans (470 m) and Blanche Fontaine (500 m) on the terrace on the southern flank of the Dessoubre as well as some individual farms. Neighboring communities of Orgeans -Blanche Fontaine Vauclusotte, Valoreille and Fleurey in the north, Les Bréseux in the east, Mancenans- Lizerne and Mont -de- Vougney in the south and Battenans - Varin and Cour -Saint -Maurice in the West.

History

In the Middle Ages belonged Orgeans and Blanche Fontaine to rule Saint- Julien. Together with the Franche- Comté reached both towns with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France. In 1973 the two previously independent municipalities merged to double municipality Orgeans -Blanche Fontaine.

Population

With 49 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Orgeans -Blanche Fontaine is one of the smallest municipalities of the department of Doubs. Throughout the 20th century, the population fluctuated in the range between 40 and 80 people.

Economy and infrastructure

Orgeans -Blanche Fontaine was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture ( livestock and dairy farming, arable farming and fruit growing ) embossed village. Even today, the inhabitants live on the merits of the activity in the first sector. Outside of the primary sector, there are very few jobs in the village. Some employed persons are also commuters who engage in the surrounding larger towns of their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares. The main access is from the D39 ( road through the Dessoubre valley). Further road links exist with Maîche, Belleherbe, Vauclusotte and Battenans - Varin.
