Orhan Gencebay

Orhan Gencebay (* August 4, 1944 in Samsun, Turkey; civil Orhan Kencebay ) is a Turkish singer, saz virtuoso and actor. His loose interpretation of the arabesque shaped the Turkish music in the second half of the 20th century with decisive. He has worked as a songwriter, lyricist, arranger and producer, has released a number of albums and appeared in several films. He sold over 65 million records. Life

Orhan Gencebay was born on August 4, 1944 in Samsun. At the age of six, he started to learn playing the violin and mandolin. His first Turkish lute, the saz, he was seven years old. As a 13 - year-old child he learned the Tanburspielen, which is one of the four basic instruments of Turkish art music. From 1958 he concentrated more on composing his own works; This year, his first work Ruhumda Titreyen Bir Sonsuz Alevsin arose ( German: You are the eternal flame that flickers in my soul ). During his school years he played in several music groups within the Turkish art music and folk music with, gave music lessons and helped in the establishment of public houses, a public education project in Samsun and Istanbul. At the age of 16 years, Gencebay for jazz was interested in studying the tenor saxophone playing and joined a band.

In Istanbul, he studied for four years at a music college. During his military service in the Turkish army, he played saxophone in the Brass Band of the military.
