Ori Kaplan

Ori Kaplan ( born October 1, 1969 in Tel Aviv) is an Israeli jazz saxophonist.

Ori Kaplan began eleven years of classical clarinet lessons; He decided, however, to jazz and played in the formation DXM, a Tel Aviv underground band. Kaplan moved in 1991 to the United States, acquired at the Mannes College ( NYC) the bachelor's degree and founded his trio with bassist and tuba player Plus Tom Abbs and drummer and trumpeter Geoff Mann and played in the big band of William Parker, the Little Huey Orchestra, in Alan Silva's sound Visions Orchestra and other musicians at the Knitting Factory and the Vision Festival and Susie Ibarra. In January 1999, for the CIMP label was the first album of the Ori Kaplan Trio ( Realms ). On his second album Delirium worked with the trombone player Steve Swell. Cook and Morton Kaplan reminded the game of trio at the legendary Ornette Coleman Trio with David Izenzon and Charles Moffett of 1965.

In 2001, the Jerome Kaplan Award for Young Jazz Composers received. Kaplan also worked with the band Gogol Bordello, the influences of Eastern European music built what she called Gypsy Punk Cabaret and founded the band with Andrew Shaat'nez Bemkey, Geoff Mann, Adam Roberts, the tuba player Marcus Rojas and drummer Tamir Muskat. The band integrated traditional music forms of the Middle East, the gypsy and klezmer music. Upon his return to Israel he played in 2002 with Assif Tsahar In 2003 he founded together with Tamir Muskat formation Balkan Beat Box.
