Oria, Apulia
Oria is a town with 15 219 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the Italian province of Brindisi, Puglia region.
Location
Oria is located halfway between Brindisi and Taranto during the ancient Appian Way. The village lies at an altitude of 83 m asl. The area of the municipality covers 83 km ².
The city was founded in ancient times by probably immigrated from Illyria Messapians and is mentioned by Herodotus Hyria. According to Herodotus, the Messapians however, coming originally from Crete.
In 1725 Francesco Milizia was a neoclassical writer, born in the village.
Oria is due to the Hohenstaufen past twin town of Lorch in Baden- Württemberg.
