Orientalis Ecclesiae

The encyclical Orientalis Ecclesiae by Pope Pius XII. (9 April 1944) to 1500th anniversary of the death of Saint Cyril Patriarch of Alexandria is consecrated. Pius XII. writes in great detail about the life and work of Saint Cyril, who on 28 July 1882 by Pope Leo XIII. was named Doctor of the Church and one in the Orthodox Church to the Church Fathers. The Pope also refers to his predecessor Pius XI. written encyclical Lux Veritatis (1931 ) and underlines the conduction properties of Saint Cyril, here he goes again one on the Council of Ephesus and Cyril praises as a true fighter for the faith. The great work of Cyril it was to proceed in the Council of Ephesus against the heretic Nestorius and those to banish from his offices. This encyclical is also the call to pray for the return of the Eastern Churches and to work for the union of the churches.
