Origin Records

Origin Records is an American jazz record label, which has its headquarters in Seattle. It was founded in 1997 by drummer John Bishop, who thus wanted to publish both his own band music projects as well as other artists with whom he worked. With the support of his former pupil Matt Jorgensen, the label had a website in 1998; In 2002 the sub-label OA2 Records and 2008 Origin Classical was created. In addition, Origin produced since 2003, the Ballard Jazz Festival in Seattle, in which since the concert series The Brotherhood of the Drum, The Ballard Jazz Walk, and from 2008 the Jazz Pancake Brunch were realized. Since 2006, the trumpeter Chad McCullough complements the Origin team as A & R and production manager. 2009 Origin was awarded by the magazine Jazz Week as Best Jazz Label of the Year.
