Original Six

Original Six Hockey is the name given to the six, now 30 teams that have been represented since the acquisition of the exclusive right of the playout of the Stanley Cup by the National Hockey League in it. The term is misleading because it suggests that the teams were founding members of the existing NHL since 1917. The term arose because the Six from 1942 to 1967, accounted for in the "Golden Era" of the NHL, the entire league. This phase of NHL history, however, is economical and sporty sometimes very controversial.
