Oriolo Romano is a town with 3746 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the south of the province of Viterbo in the Lazio region.

Geography

Oriolo Romano is located 50 km north- west of Rome, 37 km south of Viterbo, on the border of the provinces of these two cities. The community lie in the field of Sabatini mountains northwest of Lake Bracciano.

The municipality consists of the villages of Castellina, Chiusa, Fornetto, la Mola, Poggio Palombino and Terrafredda.

Neighboring communities

The municipality is bordered to the north by Vejano and Bassano Romano, just south of Bracciano and Manziana and Canale Monterano.

History

After 1560 was Giorgio Santacroce cut down the forest of Manziana and farmers from Umbria and Tuscany settle along the Via Clodia and the castle (today Palazzo Altieri ) and build the church of San Giorgio. 1606 was the place of the Orsini, the 1671 re-sold it to the Altieri, remained in their possession until 1922 Oriolo.

Palazzo Altieri and Galleria

Road

Oriolo located on the Via Claudia Braccianese, State Road 493, which corresponds to the ancient Via Clodia.
