Orissaare Parish

Orissaare ( German: Orrisaar ) is a rural municipality in the Estonian Saare County with an area of ​​163.02 km ². It has 2 116 inhabitants (as of 1 June 2007).

Orissaare located in the northeast of the island of Saaremaa, 54 km from Kuressaare. The area of Orissaare was mentioned 1227-1233, when the area was under the rule of the Sword Brothers. The place was called Orisaar first documented in 1464. In Maasi after 1343 was a Ordensburg (Estonian: Maasilinn, German: Soneburg ), which was largely destroyed in 1576.

Tourist significant are the leisure port of Orissaare on the Bay of Illiku and the coastal landscape. The rich fauna attracts many bird watchers.
