Orito is a town in southwestern Colombia near the border with Ecuador. It is the second largest city of the department of Putumayo and is located at about 500 meters above sea level between the eastern slopes of the Cordillera Real and the jungle area on the Rio Putumayo. Are still more related to community settlements on the ridge above the river source Guamues. West of Orito reach the last foothills of the Andes about 1000-2000 meters in altitude.

The capital Bogotá is 500 km as the crow flies, the city Pasto in the neighboring coastal province of Nariño about 100 km. The road to get there is via the neighboring municipality of Puerto Asís and the provincial capital Mocoa.
