Orlando Burrell

Orlando Burrell ( born July 26, 1826 in Newton, Bradford County, Pennsylvania, † June 7, 1921 in Carmi, Illinois ) was an American politician. Between 1895 and 1897 he represented the state of Illinois in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

In 1834, Orlando Burrell moved with his parents in the White County, Illinois, where he attended the public schools. He then worked in agriculture. During the Civil War, he put together a cavalry company, which he commanded as a captain himself, and which was under the Union army. Between 1873 and 1881 was Burrell district judge in White County, suggesting an earlier study of law. From 1892 to 1894 he was sheriff of this county. Politically, he joined the Republican Party. In June 1892 he took part in Minneapolis as a delegate to the Republican National Convention.

In the congressional elections of 1894 Burrell was in the 20th electoral district of Illinois in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of George W. Smith on March 4, 1895. Since he has not been confirmed in 1896, he was able to complete only one term in Congress until March 3, 1897.

After the end of his time in the U.S. House of Representatives to Orlando Burrell retired from politics. In the following years he worked again in agriculture. He died on June 7, 1921 at an old age in Carmi.
