Orlando Maldonado

Orlando Maldonado ( born November 21, 1959 in Bayamon, Puerto Rico ) is a former Puerto Rican flyweight boxer.

Amateur

Maldonado won at the 1976 Olympics in Montreal, the bronze medal in the light flyweight. In the semifinals, he lost to the Cuban Jorge Hernández on points.

Professional

In 1977 he turned professional and started with a series of twenty fights without defeat in two draws. He fought his way to the title of the Puerto Rican flyweight champion and defended it once.

His 21 fight was the culmination of his professional career. In August 1980, he won against Enrique Guadamuz already in the first round by KO and thus became master of Central America WBC light flyweight.

Then wiggled Maldonado. The next two fights, fortunately not advertised as title fights, he lost. In October 1983, however, he got the opportunity against the WBC champion Rafael Orono from Venezuela to compete. After 41 seconds of the fifth round technical knockout Maldonado lost After another defeat in May 1984, he retired from boxing.
