Orlando Sirola

Orlando Sirola ( born April 30, 1928 in Fiume, † November 13, 1995 in Bologna ) was an Italian tennis player.

He won in 1959 with Nicola Pietrangeli the doubles competition of the French Open. In 1955 he stood with Pietrangeli in the final, which they lost, however. In 1956 he reached the finals of Wimbledon Pietrangeli also. His biggest success in individual he was semi-finals at the French Open in 1960. Sirola stood at the Masters in Rome 1955-1963 a total of seven times in the finals of the doubles competition. But only in 1960 and succeeded his permanent doubles partner Pietrangeli the tournament victory. In individual, he won the Bavarian Championships 1958. At the International German Championships in Hamburg in 1956 he reached the singles final.

Sirola is successful, together with Italy Pietrangeli double the Davis Cup history. Between 1953 and 1963, he won a total of 35 victories in doubles, including 34 with Pietrangeli. He played 46 matches with a positive statistic of 57:33 victories total. 1960 and 1961 he was with Italy in the final of the Davis Cup, but lost both times against Australia.
