Orlando Smith

Orlando D. Smith ( born August 28, 1944) was from June 2003 to August 2007 Chief Minister of the British Virgin Islands.

Life

Smith was originally a doctor specializing in obstetrics and practiced for many years in the British overseas territory of the Office of the Chief Medical Officers of. He was first elected for the then newly founded and guided by him National Democratic Party (NDP ) in the Legislative Council of the British Virgin Islands in 1999. In the elections of 2003, he led the party to an election victory, sparking the previously ruling Virgin Islands Party (VIP ) from. In August 2007, he was replaced by a clear electoral defeat by Ralph T. O'Neal (VIP), which was also his predecessor as head of government.
