Orléanist

Orleanist was called in France the followers of the House of Orleans.

On one hand, it was during the French Revolution, the name of the party goers of Louis Philippe II Joseph de Bourbon, Duke of Orléans ( Philippe Egalite called ). On the other hand, since 1830, designated so that the followers of Louis Philippe I. during the July Monarchy.

The latter included mostly for the upper middle class ( bourgeoisie ) and dissolved in 1848, after the fall of the French king, since they now could hardly oppose something the rival parties of the legitimist, Bonapartist and republican.

After the war of 1870/ 71, the Orleanist again came to the fore; however, their timid caution, their exaggerated consideration for the clericals, finally the experimental fusion of the conservative elements of the legitimist party, at the head of the Orléansschen family, the Count of Paris, after the death or abdication of the Count of Chambord, the legitimate succession to the kingship to secure the party alienated many liberal members who turned to the Republic. Since the extinction of the elder branch of the Bourbons with the death of the Count of Chambord (24 August 1883), the Orleanist have completely fused with the legitimist.
