Ormont

Ormont is a municipality in the volcanic Eifel region in the state of Rhineland -Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Upper Kyll whose administrative headquarters is in Juenkerath. Ormont is a nationally recognized tourist.

Geography

The municipality lies in the Eifel region at the foot of Schneifel. To Ormont includes the residential places New stone and Erlenphenn.

History

Ormont 893 was first mentioned in Prüm land register.

In a goods nomenclature of 1222 the investiture of the Counts of Vianden with the court to Oremunte by the Prüm Abbey is überliefert.1320 was Frederick II of Blankenheim of King John of Bohemia, who was Count of Luxembourg at the same time, invested with the village Oyrmunde. Frederick's wife was Elsie, wife of New stone. 1329 the brothers bought Arnold I. and Gerhard V of Blankenheim the yard New stone. 1361 came Ormont and New Stone by exchange of John I of Schleiden and his brother Konrad von Schleiden, who was provost of St. Gereon in Cologne. Konrad von Schleiden built around 1365, the castle New stone on a conical hill above the left Prümufer. 1450 Ormont came to the Counts of Manderscheid - Schleiden and was from 1613 to 1719 owned by Manderscheid - Gerolstein, then of Manderscheid - Blankenheim - Gerolstein.

After taking the region by French revolutionary troops (1794 ) Ormont belonged from 1795 to 1814 to the French canton Kronenburg in the department of Ourthe et Mairie Hallschlag was assumed. During the First Coalition War 1794 French revolutionary troops burned the castle New stone and sold it as a quarry.

Based on the decisions taken at the Congress of Vienna agreements, the three municipalities Hallschlag, Ormont and Scheid came from the Department of Ourthe Kingdom of Prussia. The three communities were assigned to the mayor's Hallschlag in 1816 newly built circle Prüm in the Trier region.

During World War II Ormont was heavily damaged during the so-called Battle of the Bulge (Unternehmen " Wacht am Rhein ").

As part of Rhineland-Palatinate, functional and territorial reform Ormont was reclassified along with 14 other communities on 7 November 1970 by the same resolution Prüm district in the county down (since 2007 County Volcanic Eifel ).

The local council in Ormont consists of eight council members, who were elected at the municipal election held on 7 June 2009 by majority vote, and the honorary mayor as chairman.

Coat of arms

The coat of arms description reads: "Under a gold prongs main shield and golden Bogenschildfuß (Mountain), is a red dragon's head, which is covered with a red cross bar, in red five ( 2:1:2 ) silver balls, accompanied on either side of each a golden Glaive ".

Meaning: Ormont and the suburb of New stone belonged to the County of Manderscheid, which is represented by the golden head of the shield spikes. Konrad von Schleiden, the builder of the new stone castle in Ormont, resulted in his coat of arms the golden glaives ( spearheads ). From the seal of John of New stone the five balls are removed. The golden mountain in the lower part of the emblem symbolizes the former volcano Goldberg close of the municipality and the place name, which is originated from the Latin " ad aureum montem ". Cross-staff and dragon are as attributes of the churches and local saint of the Holy Margaretha. The local church Ormont leads the coat of arms since 1992.
