Ormøya

Ormøya is an inhabited island in the Oslo fjord, about five kilometers south of the center of Oslo. It is accessible via the Ormsund bru from Mosseveien from. From the south end you can reach the island Malmøya over a bridge.
Ormøya has two public buildings, the designed and listed by the German - Norwegian architect Bernhard Steckmest church and a village hall in 1862 with the name of Villa Lille Borg.
Previously Ormøya was mostly used as a recreational island for rich citizens of the capital, in 1900 it was also common to live permanently on Ormøya.
Origin of the name
The name means Ormøya worm snake island or island. Since the strait between the mainland and the island looks like a worm, called the Sound Ormsund ( Wurmsund ) and the island Ormøya.
