Ornament Teppichhai ( Orectolobus ornatus )

The ornament Teppichhai ( Orectolobus ornatus, originally Crossorhinus ornatus, but mainly Orectolobus devisi ) is a Genuine shark from the family of carpet sharks ( Orectolobidae ). He lives round the eastern Indonesia, in Papua New Guinea and off the Australian east and south coasts in the Western Pacific. Southern sighted, usually a larger specimens are part of a private nature, Orectolobus halei assigned.

Features

The type is flat with a broad head and body, and reaches a maximum length of just 2.90 meters. Around the maxilla it transmits, branched partly barbels. The coloring is of reddish light brown on the head, back and tail wears the type saddles of eye-catching, black dotted drawings, which give it its name.

Way of life

The ornament Teppichhai lives on the continental shelf in bays, on algae covered rocks and in coral reefs at depths of up to 100 m. He hunts at night smaller sharks and rays, cephalopods and crustaceans, during the day he is in hiding. The species is ovoviviparous.
