Ornbau is located on the Altmühltherme, on the edge of the Franconian Lake District, 60 km south-west of Nuremberg.

History

Ornbau was first mentioned in 838 in a document. The name changed over the centuries from Arenburen (place of Aro) up to the present, common name since 1800. As early as 1300 ( since 1229 Markets) formed Ornbau own bailiwick. The place consisted of a walled and an unprotected (now suburb ) settlement. Ornbau with its surroundings formed a private Officiatus, also called ministers. Income from customs and court accrued to the Bishop of Eichstätt.
