Orobanche minor

Small broomrape ( Orobanche minor)

The Small broomrape ( Orobanche minor), also known as clover Strangler, is a species of the genus summer Wurzen ( Orobanche ) in the family of broomrape family ( Orobanchaceae ).

Description

The Small broomrape is a 10 to 40 cm high, parasitic plant, mostly on red clover (Trifolium pratense) and the Middle clover Trifolium medium, rare ( Medicago sativa ) on alfalfa, seed sainfoin ( Onobrychis viciifolia ) and Ornithophus sativus parasitized.

The crown is rarely longer than 12 mm, it is yellowish white. At the upper lip has two lobes, which have just pre-stretched lobes. The stamens are hairy at the base sparse, the tip glabrous or only occupied with scattered glandular hairs. The scar is brownish purple.

The Small broomrape can be easily confused with Kümmerexemplaren of Orobanche artemisiae campestris, but this species is not found in the rule of clover.

Occurrence

The species is native to Europe, Western Asia and North Africa. It grows on fresh meadows, along roads and roadsides, on fallow land and in clover fields, especially in low, warm layers, but also up to 800 m altitude. The preferred soils are fresh, base-and nutrient- rich.
