Oromo Peoples' Democratic Organization

The Democratic Organization of Oromovolkes ( Oromiffa: Dhaabbata Demokraatawaa Ummata Oromo, Amharic የኦሮሞ ህዝቦች ዴሞክራሲያዊ ድርጅት transcribed Yeh - Oromo Hizbočč Demokrasiyawi Dərəǧǧət ኦህዴድ, in English Oromo Peoples' Democratic Organization; abbreviation OPDO or OPDO ) is an ethnically -founded political party in Ethiopia which ( including the National Democratic Movement of Amhara that Democratic Front Südäthiopischen peoples and the people's Liberation Front of Tigray ) forms the current government coalition of the Revolutionary Democratic Front of the Ethiopian People ( EPRDF ) with other ethnically -based parties.

The party set has a democratic socialist and social democratic ideology. They also committed to the self-determination of the people of the Oromo. The headquarters of the party is located in Addis Ababa. The current party leader is Ato Abadula Gemeda, the Secretary-General Demeksa Kuma, who is also aucch founding member of the Party.

Influence

The Democratic Organization of Oromovolkes has a total of about 750,000 members. In the last Ethiopian parliamentary elections on 15 May 2005, the party joined as part of the electoral alliance Revolutionary Democratic Front of the Ethiopian peoples, which won 327 of the 527 seats in the People's House of Representatives. The Democratic Organization of Oromovolkes even got them a total of 110 seats, of which 74 were men and only 36 awarded to women. In the elections to regional parliaments in August 2005, the party won 387 of the 537 seats in the regional parliament in Oromia, and 14 out of 36 seats in the region of Harar. History

The Democratic organization of Oromovolkes in 1989 was founded after it had been tension between the EPRDF and the Oromo Liberation Front of the former rebel group National Liberation Front of Tigray from Oromo members of the Ethiopian National Democratic Movement and the Oromo prisoners of war. The official founding date is 27 March 1990.

First, a weak organization could still achieve the OPDO using the EPRDF gradually victorious military successes against the then ruling regime of the Communist Workers' Party of Ethiopia.
