Orosei

Orosei is an Italian commune in the province of Nuoro in Sardinia with 6879 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012).

Orosei lies on the SS 125 " Orientale Sarda ", the coastal road that connects with Cagliari Olbia. After construction of the four-lane SS 131 SS 125 has largely lost its importance, giving the town a very benefit. The place is located in the delta of Cedrino, on the east coast of Sardinia, about 3 km from the sea. After successful malaria eradication and control the river Cedrino to Orosei developed rapidly since 1950. 1931 lived in Orosei about 2500 to 1970 but already more than 4000 people.

The neighboring municipalities are Dorgali, Galtellì, Onifai and Siniscola. The municipality includes the town of Orosei Sos Alinos.

History

The area around Orosei was how some Domus de Janas testify inhabited in the Neolithic period (4000-3000 BC). The fact that the area was inhabited at the time of the Bronze Age Nuraghen, prove the Nuraghe " Nurache'e Portu ", " Rampino " and "Sa Linnarta ".

They introduce the feudal system. Until its abolition in 1846 Orosei belonged to the " Barony di Galtellì y Encontrada de Orosei ".

In 1448 the area was bought by Baron Guiso. From the 16th to the 18th century, it always comes back to raids by pirates. In 1549 Muslim pirates Orosei destroy almost completely. From 1746 to 1782 there is a flowering of port activity. 1861 is Sardinia and thus Orosei part of Italy.

The economy was geared mainly agricultural until a few decades ago. The regularly flooded farmland in the delta of Cedrino provided for unusually fertile, easily irrigated soil. Since started the marble and granite mining in the 50s of the 20th century, is also an industry that exports high quality rock developed world. From 1970 began the development of tourism, so that the economy of Orosei rests on three pillars.

Orosei part of the National Park Gennargentu and Gulf of Orosei, the reserve includes both mountain and coastal areas. Particularly well known are the beaches of Cala Osalla and Liberotto, Sa Linna Siccas Cala Ginepro, Sat Mattanosa and Bidderosa.
