Village center of Orpund
Orpund ( in local dialect Orpung [ ˌ ɔɾpuŋ / o ː ɾpuŋ ], French Orpond (it) ) is a municipality in the administrative district of Biel / Bienne Canton of Berne in Switzerland. The municipality, also called municipality, next to the village Orpund also includes the former Premonstratensian Gottstatt and the hamlet Zilwil. With the same limits, there is a civic community Orpund.
Geography
The neighboring communities of Orpund in the north clockwise are starting Safnern, Scheurenstraße, Schwadernau, Brugg and Biel / Bienne. The southern boundary of the municipality is the Aare in Nidau- Buren - channel.
History
Findings at various locations in the municipal area testify to the permanent presence of humans since the Neolithic age. Documented the place Orpont / Or ( t) since 1255 as Orpunt / colorful occupied. The place name is a Latin addition * (ad) aur (s) to pontem, returned to the golden bridge '.
Population
Of the 2,680 residents, 410 are foreigners (15.3%). The population growth of Orpund is relatively low, the community has increased in the last 5 years only by a little over 2 % of population.
Languages
Orpund is 86.6 %, a German -speaking congregation. 7% are French.
Religion
The former Premonstratensian Gottstatt to the Nidau - Buren - channel is the present church in Orpund and part of the Protestant parish Gottstatt, which belongs to a large part of the population.
Policy
The voter shares of the parties at the national elections of 2011 were: SVP 35.2 %, SP 23.5 %, 13.3 % BDP, FDP 6.5 %, 5.2 % GPS, glp 4.8 %, 3.5 % EDU, EPP 2.6 %, CVP 1.8 %.
In Orpund (2012 ), two parties with local groups are currently active, the SVP and the SP.

In August, respectively, the Royal Arena Festival Music Festival takes place in Orpund.

Orpund has a partner church in the Czech Republic, Brtnice since 1991.
