The Orquesta Aragón was founded on September 30, 1939 by Orestes Aragón Cantero in Cienfuegos. The band was called before Ritmica 39 and shortly thereafter Ritmica Aragon. They were in the 1950s and 1960s as the best charanga band in Cuba. Their trademark were high-class instrumentation and rhythmic innovations. Together with Beny Moré and Perez Prado they also influenced the Mambo. In the 1950s, the Danzon was more and more replaced by the Cha -Cha -Cha in its popularity. Orquesta Aragón in 1953 began his first tours, in 1954 in Mexico. Between 1955 and 1958 the Orquesta Aragon brought out four albums at the record company RCA Records. Overall, they had produced over one hundred songs, some of which, such as " Macuto ", " Por esta adoracion ", " El trago ", " Gallo y gallina " and " Cha Cha Cha navideño " were not released. After the death of Rafael Lay Apesteguia 1982 Richard Egües took over the group. During the Cuban Revolution Orquesta Aragón was again on tour abroad in over 30 countries. They play today in Havana.
