Orsa Municipality

Orsa is a municipality (Swedish kommun ) in the Swedish province of Dalarna County and Dalarna. The main town of the municipality is Orsa.

Geography

The community is rich in natural forests that begin just north of the main town. A key feature is also the 53 km ² lake Orsasjön, the south has a connection to Lake Siljan. On Orsasjön there is a campground with miles of sandy beach, which has won several awards for its quality and beauty. Therefore, the area was nicknamed " Dalarna Riviera".

History

In the 17th century, many immigrants from Finland arrived in the area known as Orsa Finnmark, which is sparsely populated today.

Attractions

The biggest tourist attraction of the church is a place and mountain Grönklitt with a Bear Park and a winter sports facility with numerous downhill slopes. The Bear Park is a fenced area in which are placed out of various bear other predators such as wolves, lynx, wolverines, tigers and leopards. Also in the surrounding woods, some of these animals are native. The most famous " residents " is Wilbär, the young polar bear males born in Stuttgart's Wilhelma, which was moved on 15 May 2009 in the Polar World.

Storstupet and Helvetesfallet (Hell's fall ) are two waterfalls in the course of Aeman, about 20 kilometers from the main town of Orsa. Both were adjusted by blasting or construction work on the rafts. The Storstupet is known for an impressive bridge of the domestic car over the Aeman.

The grindstone Museum ( Slipstenmuseet ) lies at the entrance to the former pit area at Kallmora. The mining of sandstone for use as a whetstone was for many centuries an important economic base for the region's farmers. A small trail, a museum and an exhibition of photographs at a restored quarry ( Lindågruvan ) give an impression of the earlier work.

The local museum ( homestead ) is an open air museum where various historic buildings were rebuilt from the territory of the municipality Orsa. The site is accessible at all times. On different days in the past workshops ( dyeing, forging, weaving ) can be opened and used. One of the biggest Mitsommerfeiern the region takes place here every year.
