Orsara di Puglia

Orsara di Puglia is a town with 2838 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) and is located 37 km east of the provincial capital of Foggia in the province of Foggia in Nordapulien, on the border with the province of Avellino in Campania.

The neighboring municipalities are Bovino, Castelluccio dei Sauri, Celle di San Vito, Faeto, Greci (AV), Montaguto (AV), Panni, Troy.

Before the great wave of emigration in the 1950s and 1960s, one speaks of more than 8000 Orsaresi who lived in this village.

History

The origins Orsara di Puglia lie in the first centuries after Christ. Its name comes from the Latin words Ursus the Bear, as Aer, the area.
