Orteig Prize

The Orteig Prize was instituted in 1919 by a native of France New York hotel owner Raymond Orteig. The prize money of U.S. $ 25,000 should be the one to get that would fly the first man nonstop from New York to Paris or vice versa.

Before the price of Charles Lindbergh and his plane Spirit of St. Louis was won, several unsuccessful attempts have been made. After Lindbergh's successful flight abruptly increased the public interest in aviation and the opportunity to travel as a passenger in an aircraft.
