Osage County (Kansas)
Osage County is a county located in the state of Kansas in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Lyndon.
Geography
The County is located in east-central Kansas, is about 80 km from Missouri and has an area of 1863 square kilometers, of which 41 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Shawnee County, Douglas County, Franklin County, Coffey County, Lyon County and Wabaunsee County.
History
Osage County was formed on 11 February 1859. It was named after the Osage River.

According to the census in 2000 lived in Osage County 16,712 people in 6490 households and 4737 families in Osage County. The population density was 9 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 97.27 percent White, 0.22 percent African American, 0.65 percent Native American, 0.17 percent Asian, 0.10 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 0.41 percent from other races groups; 1.18 percent were descended from two or more races. 1.53 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 6490 households out of which 33.8 percent of children under 18 who lived with them. 61.0 percent were married couples living together, 8.1 percent were single mothers and 27.0 percent were non-families. 23.5 percent of all households were single-person households and 11.5 percent living alone who is 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.54 and the average family size was 2.99 persons.
27.0 percent of the population were under 18 years old. 6.4 percent 18 to 24 years 27.0 percent between 25 and 44, 23.7 percent between 45 and 64 years, and 15.8 percent were 65 years of age or older. The average age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 96.0 males. For every 100 adult women 18 years and older 93.3 males.
The median income for a household was $ 37,928, and the median income for a family was $ 44,581. Males have a median income of $ 30,670, women $ 22,981. The per capita income was $ 17,691. 6.4 percent of families and 8.4 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
