Osann-Monzel

Osann- Monzel on the Mosel is a wine-growing municipality in the district of Bernkastel-Wittlich, in Rhineland -Palatinate and consists of the merged districts in 1969 and Osann Monzel. The municipality belongs to the municipality of Wittlich -Land.

Geography

The community Osann- Monzel is located on the Moselle, on a hill in one to two kilometers away from the river. The town is located about 180 meters above sea level, between the mountains Hüttenkopf and Rosenberg, in a side by the Tertiary resulted in a bend of the Mosel river.

History

The area of Osann- Monzel was probably first settled during the Roman period, after Julius Caesar ( 100 BC to 44 BC ) Eifel and Mosel incorporated into the Roman Empire. This first documented mention was dated to the year 1008.

Archbishop Baldwin of Trier in 1323 was the Count of Nassau - Saarbrücken and Monzel Osann as a fief, a major landowner in Monzel but also remained the monastery Himmerod. 1412 was Philip of Nassau -Saarbrücken to the Counts of Daun and broken Osann Monzel and as an after fief.
