Oscar Camenzind

Oscar " Ösi " Camenzind ( born September 12, 1971 in Gersau, Canton Schwyz ) is a retired Swiss professional road bicycle racer.

Career

Camenzind 1996 pro. In 1997 he won the Grand Prix stage race Tell, finished the Tour de Suisse in second place and was Swiss Radstraßenmeister.

His most successful year was 1998: He finished fourth overall at the Giro d' Italia and won the Road World Championships in Valkenburg, the Netherlands. A few days later, the Swiss also took victory at the Tour of Lombardy. Due to this success, he was also elected to the Swiss Sportsman of the Year.

In 2000, he won the Tour de Suisse with a lead of 14 seconds on the Italian Dario Frigo. 2001 Camenzind won the heavy wheel - classic Liege -Bastogne- Liege, one of the five monuments of cycling.

On 22 July 2004 Camenzind tested positive for EPO in a doping control. He withdrew its participation in the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, has been released from his cycling team Phonak Cycling Team as of 9 August 2004 announced on 10 August 2004 in Lucerne end of his career.
