Oscar de la Renta

Oscar de la Renta ( born July 22, 1932 in Santo Domingo as Oscar Aristides Renta Fiallo Ortiz ) is an American- Dominican fashion designer who is counted by fashion critics the most influential fashion designers of the 20th century.

De la Renta was born in the Dominican Republic. At the age of 18 he emigrated to Spain where he studied painting in Madrid at the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando. He turned away from the mid-1950s, however, very quickly to the design of women's fashion. In 1957 he got a job at Eisa in Madrid, the couture studio of the major Spanish fashion designer Cristóbal Balenciaga.
