Oscar Méténier
Oscar Méténier (* 1859 in Sancoins, Cher département, France, † 1913) was a French writer and theater director.
Méténier, son of a policeman, worked as a secretary in a police station. He used the experiences there as a substance for first pieces. In the tradition of Émile Zola created naturalistic plays and novels. Besides André Antoine, he was co-founder of the Théâtre Libre and its principal author. Because of the content and the characters of his plays, he was frequently censored. Thus, the performance of Mademoiselle Fifi ( from the book by Guy de Maupassant ) was banned in 1896 by the police, as a prostitute occurred. 1897 Oscar Méténier founded his own theater, the Grand - Guignol. There naturalistic works have been performed, exercised the pulses on the " unleashed theater " of modernity and the splatter and horror film of the United States.
1898 joined Méténier its shares in the Grand Guignol from to Max Maurey.
