Oscar Tietz

Oscar Tietz ( born April 18, 1858 in Birnbaum on the Warta River, province of Posen, † 17 January 1923 in Klosters ) was a German - Jewish merchant. He founded the Hertie Waren-und Kaufhaus.

Life

Oscar Tietz was born as the son of Jacob Fuhrmanns Tietz and his wife Johanna. His brother Leonhard Tietz (1849-1914) founded the later Kaufhof Group. His daughter married Else Tietz 1919 Hugo Zwillenberg.

After a commercial apprenticeship and working to begin with Oscar Tietz opened on March 1, 1882 with the financial support of his uncle Hermann Tietz in Gera yarn, buttons, trimmings, white goods and woolen goods business Hermann Tietz, which already had significant features of modern department stores: fixed prices, no deferral or cover letter and a diverse, cross-sector offer.
