Oscar Turner (1867–1902)

Oscar Turner ( * October 19, 1867 in Woodlands, Ballard County, Kentucky, † July 17, 1902 in Louisville, Kentucky ) was an American politician. Between 1899 and 1901 he represented the state of Kentucky in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Oscar Turner was the son of Oscar Turner senior (1825-1896), who was also of 1879-1885 the state of Kentucky in Congress. He attended the public schools in Washington DC and the Rugby School in Louisville. After a subsequent law studies at the University of Louisville and the University of Virginia and his 1891 was admitted to the bar, he began practicing in this profession in Louisville.

Turner was a member of the Democratic Party. In the congressional elections of 1898 he was elected the fifth electoral district of Kentucky in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington, where he became the successor of Walter Evans on March 4, 1899. Since he resigned in 1900 to run again, he was able to complete only one term in Congress until March 3, 1901. After the end of his time in the U.S. House of Representatives Oscar Turner practiced as a lawyer again. He died on July 17, 1902 in Louisville, where he was also buried.
