Osceola County (Michigan)

Osceola County is a county located in the state of Michigan in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Reed City.

Geography

The County is located just north-west of the geographic center of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan and has an area of 1484 square kilometers, of which 18 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Missaukee County, Clare County, Mecosta County, Lake County, and Wexford County.

History

Osceola County was formed in 1840 from parts of Mackinac County. Until 1843 it was called Unwattin County. It was named after Osceola, a chief of the Seminoles.
