Osgood's leaf-eared mouse

Phyllotis osgoodi is a little -studied rodent of the genus leaf earrings mice ( Phyllotis ). The specific epithet honors the American zoologist Wilfred Hudson Osgood.

Features

The total length is from 180 to 245 mm, the head -body length 84-135 mm, tail length 80 to 110 mm, the Hinterfußlänge 24.0 to 29.0 mm, the ear length 19.6 to 28.0 mm and the weight 27.0 to 57.5 g Phyllotis osgoodi similar in habit Phyllotis darwini. The top color varies from beige coffee brown to yellow-brown. The hair is black. The belly is dirty gray. The karyotype is 2n = 40

Occurrence, habitat and behavior

Phyllotis osgoodi is endemic in the Altiplano in the Chilean province of Arica. The known specimens were caught at an altitude of 4400 meters. About the way of life nothing is known.

Status

Phyllotis osgoodi has a relatively small distribution area of about 5000 km ². The region is currently affected by mining activities. The IUCN lists the species in the category of " insufficient data " ( data deficient ).
